According to some studies, it is estimated that around 80% of all car seats are not installed properly. What’s worse is that many people never bother to check to see if a car seat has been recalled (especially if it is a used car seat bought from a garage sale or handed down from a relative). As a result the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHSTA) has partnered with several child care and automotive companies (including DaimlerChrysler) to create the Seat Check hotline and web site.
